SOFAVI Restarts Sorbitol Plant in Tây Ninh to Strengthen Local Supply

Monday, 11 May, 2026

SOFAVI has restarted its Sorbitol plant in Tây Ninh with more than VND 1.078 trillion in investment and designed capacity of 30,000 tons per year. The plant uses mainly domestic Non-GMO cassava starch and aims to support local supply before expanding to export markets.

SOFAVI has officially restarted its Sorbitol production plant at Tân Hội 1 Industrial Cluster in Tây Ninh, marking a return to industrial-scale operations for a project positioned around domestic supply, local raw materials and higher supply-chain resilience. The restart matters because Sorbitol is used in food, pharmaceutical and high-end cosmetic production, while Vietnam’s market has long relied heavily on imported supply.

A restart after a difficult restructuring period

The plant had previously faced a challenging period as Covid-19 disrupted global supply chains, increased logistics costs and narrowed consumption markets. SOFAVI paused operations for an extended period to restructure, a decision described as difficult but necessary to stabilize resources before resuming production.

At the restart ceremony, SOFAVI General Director Phạm Tiến Thịnh said the return to production was more than a milestone. It also reflected the company’s long-term investment commitment and its intention to build a stable domestic supply chain that can help Vietnamese businesses reduce dependence on imported raw materials.

Industrial capacity for a strategic input

With total investment of more than VND 1.078 trillion, equivalent to around USD 41 million, and designed capacity of 30,000 tons per year, SOFAVI is positioned as a pioneering producer of Sorbitol at industrial scale in Vietnam. Sorbitol is described as an essential ingredient for food, pharmaceutical and high-end cosmetic sectors.

The restart is therefore not only a company-level development. It also addresses a broader supply issue for domestic manufacturers that have depended heavily on imports. A local source of Sorbitol can support cost control, delivery timelines and the ability of the economy to withstand external geopolitical and supply-chain volatility.

Local raw materials and deeper processing in Tây Ninh

SOFAVI’s plant operates under a sustainable production model, using 80% raw materials from domestic Non-GMO cassava starch. By using Tây Ninh’s agricultural advantages, the project aims to connect the value chain from farms to the factory and improve income opportunities for local farmers.

Tây Ninh provincial leaders welcomed SOFAVI’s return and viewed the project as a positive example of deep-processing industry in the locality. The province also signaled continued support for transparent conditions that can help high-technology projects such as SOFAVI contribute to wider national development.

Next phase: standards and export markets

In the next stage, SOFAVI plans to complete its system in line with EU-GMP standards. The company aims to serve the domestic market while also preparing for exports to South Korea, Japan and the Middle East.

The restart of SOFAVI’s Sorbitol plant gives Vietnam a stronger foundation for local chemical-pharmaceutical supply. If the planned standards and export roadmap are completed, the project can help turn domestic agricultural inputs into higher-value industrial products for both local and overseas markets.
